Sefertepe

Sefertepe is located approximately 72 km east of Şanlıurfa and it is far 20 km from Karahantepe and 50 km from Göbeklitepe. It was first identified in 2003, and is dated to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period.

Considering the architectural features of the settlement, there are predominantly rectangular spaces with approximately 8-10 rows of neatly laid stone-lined walls. It is seen that all these spaces form a building complex. In addition to the rectangular planned structures, there are also more oval and round planned structures in the lower houses of the settlement. Both T-shaped and flat-shaped obelisks and examples of platforms seen in the settlements of the Tigris Basin are also seen inside these spaces. There are also examples of benches and floors in the architecture.

A rich collection of paleolithic finds was found in Sefertepe. While most of the finds are made of flintstone, there are also a small number of obsidian samples. When the chipped stone finds consisting of flakes, blades, cores and core renewal trays in various forms are functionally examined, examples of scrapers, drillers and arrowheads draw attention.

The first studies on the zoological finds found in the area show that the settlement has a rich faunal diversity. There are samples of 13 different species among the animal remains identified.
Beads, fragments of bracelets/rings, refined stone and bone objects in various forms draw attention among the small finds with symbolic value found in the settlement. Especially the detected bead group has a rich diversity.
